Communities are uplifted as shared buildings such as GAA clubs, libraries, and sports halls undergo energy efficiency enhancements. Commercial organisations experience heightened competitiveness through reduced energy costs, while homes are transformed into comfortable havens, mitigating the impact of energy poverty.

The SEAI Community Grant encompasses a range of measures to elevate energy efficiency:

  • All projects must have a community-oriented, cross-sectoral approach.
  • Project Coordinators manage the entire process, from project submission to grant application and contractor works.
  • Partnership is crucial, with a diverse range of organizations collaborating for successful community energy projects.

  • If you are a business owner, community service operator, homeowner, or retail owner, connect with a Project Coordinator.
  • Project Coordinators are actively seeking prospective projects, so reach out at the earliest opportunity to discuss your energy efficiency aspirations.
Program Standards and Requirements:
  • Adherence to SEAI Contractor Code of Practice and Building Regulations.
  • Registration of contractors with SEAI where applicable.
  • Implementation of optimal solutions.
  • Minimum Building Energy Rating (BER) uplift of 100 kWh/m²/yr for completed domestic buildings.
  • Submission of 10 pre-BERs at the application stage.
  • Publication of pre and post BERs for all homes, supported under Building Energy Communities (BEC).

Also note that for non domestic projects a grant evaluation process will apply the following value for money checks in addition to the eligibility and evaluation criteria.

  1. For grant values of €500,000 or higher, the grant value will be capped at a maximum value of €850/tCO2 (annual).
  2. For grant values of €50,000 to €500,000, the grant value will be capped at a maximum value of €1,000/tCO2 (annual).
  3. For grant values of less than €50,000, no additional value for money test will be applied
