At Celtic Dynamics, we take great pride in delivering projects that honour local heritage while embracing the principles of sustainability. One such project recently completed is the restoration of Ballyglunin Train Station – an iconic location made famous in The Quiet Man and now revitalised for the 21st century.

A Landmark Reimagined
This ambitious project was made possible through a partnership between Celtic Dynamics, Galway County Council, and the Climate Action Project. Together, we set out to ensure that Ballyglunin Train Station remains a treasured community asset while evolving into a more energy-efficient, accessible, and climate-conscious space.
Celtic Dynamics’ Role
Our work at Ballyglunin focused on integrating practical sustainability measures with respect for the building’s historical character. Key deliverables included:
Lime Render and Paintwork: Through Murphy Plastering & Maintenance, the building received new lime render and paint, ensuring both durability and heritage alignment.

Thermal Window Restoration: Working with Window Seal Ltd, original windows were carefully restored and fitted with modern insulation to improve performance while maintaining the station’s traditional façade.
Insulation Upgrades: We oversaw the insulation of the station building to reduce energy consumption and create a more comfortable internal environment year-round.
These enhancements ensure that the station not only looks the part but also operates to a higher environmental standard – a key goal in every project we take on.
A Space Reclaimed for the Community
“Ballyglunin Station is looking fantastic thanks to the great work completed by Celtic Dynamics, and funding from the Climate Action Fund. Ballyglunin Station is more user friendly thanks to these improvements and we are now facilitating a more comfortable Connected Hub, Meeting Space and community activities including exercise classes and courses. Ballyglunin Community Development are excited to continue to improve our facilities and offer more to the Ballyglunin community.”
Ballyglunin Train Station is now more than just a restored building. It has become a Connected Hub and multi-use space, facilitating local meetings, exercise classes, courses, and cultural activities. This is a building once again serving its community – but this time, with lower emissions and improved comfort.
Recognition and Next Steps
We were delighted to see strong support at the launch of the Ballyglunin Community Development Plan, including contributions from Minister Seán Canney, local representatives, and community board members. The positive feedback reinforces the importance of integrating sustainability into heritage projects.
As Ballyglunin Community Development continues to expand its offering, we’re proud to have played a part in preparing this beloved site for its next chapter.
