The SEAI National Energy Research Funding Programme is a catalyst for groundbreaking actions aligned with Ireland’s energy and climate goals. The program targets the objectives outlined in the Climate Action Plan 2023, the Programme for Government, the 2030 Climate and Energy Framework, Project Ireland 2040, and Ireland’s National Energy and Climate Plan. By investing in innovative energy Research, Development, and Demonstration (RD&D) projects, the program plays a pivotal role in steering Ireland towards a clean, secure energy future.
Who Can Apply:
Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and large companies, particularly those affiliated with Enterprise Ireland as clients or potential clients, are invited to harness the power of energy-related innovation. This program serves as a platform for businesses seeking to enhance their performance and competitiveness through cutting-edge energy solutions.
Eligibility Criteria:
To be eligible for the grant, the applicant must:
- Be a business or public entity registered in Ireland.
- Possess a valid tax clearance certificate.
- Agree to provide feedback and data to SEAI.
- Not have received any other public funding for the same project.
- The research must fall within the scope of “industrial research” and/or “experimental development,” spanning Technology Readiness Levels 3-9.
Grant Value:
The grant value is contingent on factors such as the company’s size, project type, and eligible R&D costs. The grant rate ranges from 25% to 50% of the eligible costs, based on the company’s size. Standard projects have a minimum eligible expenditure of €100,000 and a maximum of €650,000. Exceptional projects have a minimum of €300,000 and a maximum of €2 million.
Application Process:
Applicants need to submit the following documents along with the online application form:
- A copy of the tax clearance certificate.
- A quotation from the approved provider.
- A completed project plan template.
SEAI’s Commitment to Research:
SEAI is committed to fostering research excellence, as evidenced by the increase in research PhD stipends from €18,500 to €25,000 per annum. This decision aligns with the recommendations of an independent National Review of State Supports for PhD Researchers, emphasising SEAI’s dedication to advancing Ireland’s energy research landscape.
What Projects are Eligible:
The program encourages diverse approaches and engaged research methods across all research disciplines. Proposals from various stakeholders and collaborative projects involving multiple organisations are welcome, provided they align with the overarching program objectives. Accelerating transformative research is pivotal to realising Ireland’s clean energy and climate ambitions.
