What Is an S.I. 426 Energy Audit?

An S.I. 426 Energy Audit is a mandatory, in-depth assessment of an organisation’s energy usage, required for qualifying organisations under Statutory Instrument No. 426 of 2014 (as amended).

The audit evaluates how energy is consumed across your facility – including buildings, processes, systems, and equipment – and identifies cost-effective measures to improve energy efficiency. It also ensures your organisation meets all documentation and reporting requirements under the regulation.

Who Needs to Comply with S.I. 426?

Your organisation may be required to carry out an S.I. 426 Energy Audit if it meets the definition of a Large Enterprise or falls within the scope of the regulation.

This typically includes organisations that:

  • Employ 250 or more people, or

  • Have an annual turnover exceeding €50 million, or

  • Have a balance sheet total exceeding €43 million

Public sector bodies and certain non-SME organisations may also be required to comply.

If you are unsure about your eligibility or obligations, Celtic Dynamics can assess your status as part of a free initial consultation.
